Nepal-India Joint Commission meeting taking place in Kathmandu

KATHMANDU: The fifth meeting of the Nepal-India Joint Commission is taking place in the capital city, Kathmandu on Wednesday.

The two-day meeting would focus on expediting, institutionalizing and making plans for implementation of efforts made and understanding reached during bilateral visits of the two prime ministers, said the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

It is also learnt that the meeting will also discuss report of the Eminent Persons’ Group on Nepal-India Relations which is yet to be received by the two PMs.

Diplomats from Nepal and abroad are eyeing on the Commission’s meeting with curiosity which is taking place 32 years after its establishment.

The foreign ministerial-level meeting will begin at 3 pm after the arrival of External Affairs Minister of India S Jaishankar.

The meeting will be jointly chaired by Minister for Foreign Affairs of Nepal Pradeep Kumar Gyawali and External Affairs Minister of India S Jaishankar, according to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

Minister Gyawali will be leading a 35-member delegation from Nepal.

The fourth meeting of the NIJC had been held in New Delhi in 2016.

5. Miscellaneous

New agreements are likely to be forged on over a dozen agendas including railway, waterway, petrol pump line, postal highway, establishment of check post, new hydro projects, said Sudan Gyawali, information officer at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
