KATHMANDU: Former Speaker Krishna Bahadur Mahara has been remanded in police custody for five more days starting from Saturday, according to the decision of the Kathmandu District Court.
A single bench of Judge Babu Ram Subedi took the decision to this effect to carry out further investigation into the case.
The court extended the remand for five more days in connection with the alleged attempt to rape case filed against Mahara by victim Roshani Shahi, a female employee at Parliament Secretariat.
Mahara, who has been facing charges over sexual misconduct, was produced before the Kathmandu District Court on Sunday.
Mahara was arrested from his official residence in Baluwatar on October 6 after Kathmandu District Court issued an arrest warrant against him for allegedly raping Shahi.
Mahara is currently admitted to the Thapathali-based Norvic International Hospital after complaints of hypertension.
