President Trump urges India, Pak to reduce tensions



WASHINGTON: US President Donald Trump on Tuesday urged South Asian neighbors India and Pakistan to endeavor towards reducing tensions in the region.

In a telephonic conversation with Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Trump described the situation in Kashmir as tough and urged PM Modi to work towards reducing tensions in Kashmir.

Trump said in a tweet that he called to his ‘good friends Prime Minister Modi and Prime Minister Khan of Pakistan, about trade, strategic partnerships and, for India and Pakistan to work towards reducing tensions in Kashmir.’

During the conversation, PM Modi raised the issue of what he said ‘extreme rhetoric and incitement to anti-India violence’ by the political leaders of Pakistan.

Meanwhile, US President Trump is said to have urged Imran Khan to ‘moderate rhetoric’ with India. (Agencies)
