KATHMANDU: Leaders of the ruling Nepal Communist Party (NCP) have been divided over the Millennium Challenge Corporation (MCC) in the Standing Committee meeting.

Leaders Dev Gurung and Bhima Rawal stated that it should not be endorsed through the cabinet meeting unless NCP makes its clear stance about it.

Likewise, Standing Committee member and Foreign Minister Pradeep Gyawali, Energy Minister Barsha Man Pun, Giriraj Mani Pokharel spoke in favor of the MCC saying that it is different from the Indo-pacific Strategy and it would not be against the interest of the country if it is endorsed by the cabinet.

NCP leaders expressed such views in the course of deliberating on the political dossier presented by chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal in the SC meeting underway since last Monday.

The Millennium Challenge Corporation is a bilateral United States foreign aid agency established by the U.S. Congress in 2004. It is an independent agency separate from the State Department and USAID.
