ISLAMABAD: Pakistan said it would grant consular access to Kulbhushan Jadhav ‘as per the Pakistani laws’, Indian media reports have said citing the Pakistan Foreign Office.

The Pakistan foreign office, in a statement, said it has already informed Kulbhushan of his rights to consular access as per the Vienna Convention.

The statement has said that Pakistan would grant consular access to him. Pakistan’s move comes after the International Court of Justice (ICJ) criticized Pakistan for continually denying Jadhav consular access in accordance with the Vienna Convention.

It should be noted that India had on Thursday asked Pakistan to ‘act immediately’ on the basis of the ICJ verdict and grant consular access to Kulbhushan.

The ICJ has instructed Islamabad for a continued stay on the death sentence of Kulbhushan and to provide him consular access.

In should be noted that Islamabad had denied access to Indian officials to meet Kulbhushan ever since his arrest in March 2016 for what has been termed as ‘alleged’ espionage. (Agencies)
