SC stays govt’s decision to ban PUBG

KATHMANDU: The Supreme Court (SC) on Friday stayed the government decision to ban popular online multiplayer game PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds (PUBG).

A single bench of Justice Ishwar Prasad Khatiwada issued an interim order against the ban after hearing a writ filed by Pravin Subedi, Bikash Thapa, Anurag Subedi, Subash Pathak and Ritesh Poudel.

A writ was filed at the apex court arguing that the ban has curtailed freedom of opinion and expression guaranteed by the constitution.

Last week, the Nepal Telecommunications Authority (NTA) had directed all the internet service providers to ban the addictive game.

The Central Investigation Bureau of Nepal Police had received various complaints calling for a ban on the game, and the ban was put into effect following permission for the same from Kathmandu District Court.
