PHC meeting today to hear Thapaliya

KATHMANDU: Parliamentary Hearing Committee (PHC) is meeting today to hear Dinesh Kumar Thapaliya, who is recommended as the chief election commissioner. A PHC meeting held on Tuesday  decided to hear Thapaliya on Wednesday and justices on Thursday.

A total of six complaints have been lodged against Thapaliya.  Provincial Lawmaker of Kathmandu-4 Narottam Baidya, Under Secretary Ishwar Prasad Pokharel, Nayab Subba Surya Prasad Ojha (non-gazetted first class officer) have filed complaints against him. Baidya has lodged complaint against Thapaliya arguing that it would set a wrong precedent if a government employee were inducted in the constitutional committee.

Similarly, Under Secretary Pokharel has accused Thapaliya of making a controversial decision on staff integration. A meeting of Constitutional Council held on March 25 had recommended Thapaliya as chief election commissioner.

Likewise, a total of five complaints have been lodged against justices.

According to a source at the PHC, two complaints have been lodged against proposed justice Prakash Dhungana while one has been lodged against Hari Prasad Fuyal. The remaining two complaints do not refer to anyone.
