Samajwadi Party Nepal to shun Constitution Day celebrations

KATHMANDU: The Samajwadi Party Nepal, which is a coalition partner in the government led by the Nepal Communist Party, has decided not to participate in Constitution Day being celebrated on September 20 this year.

It has however made up its mind not to protest the Day.

A meeting of the party’s central executive committee on Monday took a decision in this regard. “Party will not participate in any programs on the occasion,” read a statement issued by Prashant Singh, chief of the party’s publicity department.

Instead, the party is scheduled to organize interaction programs on ‘the necessity to amend the constitution’ in the capitals of all seven states on the Day, it added.
