First four months witness 445,109 international tourists



KATHMANDU: Nepal witnessed a total of 445,109 international tourists in the first four months from January-April, 2019, a cumulative increase of 15.3 percent over the same period last year.

According to the Immigration Department, while 362,840 international visitors came by air, a total of 82,269 came overland in the last four months.

Around 44,827 Indian tourists visited Nepal in four months, which is an increase of 19.1 percent in comparison to the figures of the same period of 2018.

Likewise, arrivals from Sri Lanka also increased by 55.17 percent in comparison to last year. Meanwhile, the number of Bangladeshi tourists decreased by 33.5 percent this year, NTB said.

There has been a sturdy growth of 19.22 percent on the overall arrivals from SAARC countries with 97,168 total tourist arrivals form this region.

Likewise, in the first four months of this year, a total of 64,578 Chinese tourists visited Nepal, which is 20.64 percent increase than last year in the same period.

There has been an increased inflow of tourists from Thailand (43.1 percent), South Korea (7.18 percent), and Japan (17.22 percent) in comparison to the figures of 2018.

Similarly, a total of 85,027 European tourists visited Nepal in the first four months, which is a nominal growth of 2.73 percent.

Meanwhile, while the arrival from the UK and Germany increased by 3.82 percent and 19.01 percent respectively this year, the number of visitors from Spain and France decreased by 8.21 percent and 2.6 percent respectively.

The number of the US visitors to Nepal increased by 10.8 percent totaling 32,740 while the number of Australian tourists in first four months of 2019 has been put at 13,010, which is 3.3 percent more than last year.
