Mass Tripitak recitation begins in Lumbini



LUMBINI: A mass Tripitak recitation has begun in Lumbini, the birthplace of Lord Buddha, regarded as the apostle of world peace. The program was inaugurated by Chief Minister at the State-5, Shankar Pokharel by lighting lamps.

On the occasion, CM Pokharel shared that the state government was forwarding effective plans to promote tourism in the area. He added that the event would further promote spiritual ambiance for peace and harmony.

Monks, nuns as well as Buddhist practitioners from altogether 25 countries including Nepal, India, Sri-Lanka, Japan, Thailand, China, Myanmar and Vietnam have participated in the event.

Organized by the Tripitak Chanting Organizing Committee, State-5 Ministry of Industry, Tourism, Forest and Environment, Lumbini Development Trust and Thai Monastery in Lumbini, the event is being held in the Mayadevi Temple.

The three-day event will see chanting of three Buddhist Holy Scriptures, under the Tripitak such as ‘Binayapitak’, ‘Sutrapitak’ and ‘Abhidhammapitak’.

Nepali monks and nuns commenced the chanting from Sutrapitak on the first day while the team from Myanmar will chant Abhidhammapitak and the Thai team will recite Binayapitak.
