KATHMANDU: China on Thursday said it wishes Nepal and India could solve their territory disputes on Kalapani through friendly consultations and negotiations.

Making its first official remark on border dispute surfaced between Nepal and India after the southern neighbor made public its new political map incorporating Nepali territories, Chinese Embassy in Kathmandu said China has always respected the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Nepal.

Spokesperson at the Embassy of China in Kathmandu Wang Xiaolong further claimed that China has not encroached Nepal’s land.

“These accusations are baseless and totally aim to confuse right and wrong and divert public attention,” he said.

He further said that China and Nepal signed the Boundary Treaty in 1961 and the boundary has been delimited and demarcated, adding that the two countries had recently agreed on a Boundary Management System.

“Any attempt to undermine China-Nepal relations won’t be achievable,” he maintained.

Protests have been staged in different parts of Nepal against China for encroaching Nepal’s land.

According to data of the survey department, China has encroached upon around 36 hectares of Nepali land.

Nepali lands have been encroached upon in four districts including Sankhuwasabha, Rasuwa, Sindhupalchowk and Humla districts, the report states.
