Policeman killed in NPA ambush in Philippines

MANILA: A policeman was killed while five others were wounded after suspected armed communist rebels ambushed a patrol car in Eastern Samar Friday afternoon.

The Eastern Visayas regional police said members of the New People’s Army (NPA) attacked cops in Borongan City, CNN reported.

A member of the Eastern Samar’s 1st Police Mobile Force Company was killed. No other details were given.

The NPA is the armed wing of the Communist Party of the Philippines (CPP), which has waged a five-decade insurgency, the longest-running in Asia.
