38,886 vehicles fined for illegal parking in Kathmandu



KATHMANDU: The Metropolitan Traffic Police Division (MTPD) has taken against 38,886 vehicles in Kathmandu Valley in the fiscal year 2018-19 for parking in restricted areas.

As per the record, MTPD fined 4,518 vehicles for illegal parking in 2016-17 while 33, 703 face the music in 2017-18.

Traffic Police had started locking wheels of the illegally parked four-wheeler from Nov/Dec last year in a bid to systematize parking for reducing traffic gridlock. Some 6,174 vehicles were locked in the last fiscal year for rampant parking.

Likewise, some 4,900 two-wheelers were chained in the eight months of the fiscal year 2017-18 for parking in the restricted area.
