NEW DELHI: The Delhi government has implemented the ‘odd-even’ traffic rationing scheme starting at 8 am on Monday as the Indian capital’s reached apocalyptic levels.
Over 200 Delhi Traffic Police teams have been mobilized to ensure obedience, Indian media report have said.
More than 5,000 volunteers have also been trained as a public awareness drive.
The Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB) said Delhi’s 24-hour average air quality index was 494 at 4 pm on Sunday — the highest since November 2016. It was 497 then.
All government and private schools in Noida, Ghaziabad, Gurgaon, and Faridabad have been closed.
Meanwhile, thirty-seven flights have already been diverted from the Delhi airport due to low visibility.
