Five police personnel caught while taking bribe

KAVRE: A team from the Commission for Investigation of Abuse of Authority (CIAA) held five police personnel serving in Kavrepalnchowk on charge of taking bribes from tippers.

The team arrested five police personnel working in different posts along the Araniko and Helambu highways in Kavrepalanchowk red-handed while taking bribes from tipper drivers. Three traffic police and two civil police personnel were arrested while receiving bribes from tipper operators in course of on-site monitoring, informed CIAA Spokesperson Pradeep Koirala.

Police personnel of Higuwapati police post, Tej Prasad Bhattarai, head constable of District Traffic Police Office Ramhari Manandhar and police Hari Prasad Baniya were arrested while obtaining bribes from tippers, Koirala further shared.

Likewise, Bhakta Bahadur Hayu, head constable of Panchkhal police post and Gyan Bahadur Lamgard, police personnel were held from Keraghari along the Araniko Highway. The police personnel were nabbed while carrying out on-site monitoring being based on a special tip off, Koirala added. According to him, the traffic and civil police were taking cash from tipper drivers for carrying overload and leaking water on the road.

The on-site monitoring was carried out on the tip-off that police were slapping monthly Rs 2,000 from each tipper. The anti graft body arrested them red-handed while the latter were taking Rs 2,000 each from police team. More than 1,500 tippers are daily plying Kavrepalanchowk-based Araniko and BP Highways.
