Landslide leaves two killed, five injured

BAJURA: At least two persons died in a landslide that took place at Shantitole in Gaumul rural municipality-6, Basala. Torrential rain-triggered landslide left mother and daughter dead in the same house.

The deceased have been identified as Niruta Chadara, 30, and her six-year-old Kismita Chadara, informed Uddhav Singh Bhat, Deputy Superintendant of Police at District Police Office, Bajura. The landslide occurred nearby their home at around 1.00 this morning.

Other five have sustained injuries in the incident. Among the injured are Jange Chadara, 90, Jadeni Chadara and Suke Chadara. DSP Bhat further informed Jange Chadara among the injured is undergoing treatment at Ghatmuna urban health centre in Gaumul rural municipality. Fear is looming large among the villagers due to torrential rainfall and possible occurrence of landslide, shared Prem BK, ward member.

Two different police teams, one from the District Police Office Bajura and another from Ghatmuna police post, have already moved to the incident site for further rescue. Most of the settlements of the district are most vulnerable to landslide due to geographical terrace.
