AFP team to reach Kalapani area with logistics on NA chopper

KATHMANDU: A team of the Armed Police Force (APF) will be deployed for the security of Kalapani area in Darchula’s Byas Rural Municipality.

Preparations have been made to send the team along with necessary logistics to the remote Kalapani area on a helicopter.

APF Spokesperson Praveen Kumar Shrestha said that preparations have been made to send arms and security personnel to Chhangru in Byas Municipality-1.

Shrestha said, “We are preparing to send arms and manpower.”

He said it would be difficult to stay there in all seasons, adding: “As it is a snowy place, we are going to send a team with full logistics.”

Preparations were already underway to set up a Border Outpost (BOP) in the Kalapani area for long. The troop is being sent immediately after a border dispute in the area.

APF is preparing to deploy a 35-member team under the command of the Inspector in Chhangru.

The team is being sent by a Nepal Army helicopter with arms, ammunition and supplies, rations for six months and general medical supplies.

Permanent BOP in Chhangru in a day or two: Foreign Minister

Foreign Minister Pradeep Gyawali said that preparations were being made to airlift the security forces to the upper region of Darchula on a helicopter.

Speaking at the meeting of the International Relations Committee of the House of Representatives on Monday, Minister Gyawali admitted that the absence of the government at the disputed area was one of the reasons for the encroachment.

He said that a permanent BOP will be established in Chhangru within a few days.

“We had to wait for some time as it would take time to make a permanent arrangement due to the altitude. Now, we will keep the permanent BOP in Chhangru in a day or two,” he said.
