Police charge baton on engineers picketing Singha Durbar (Video)

KATHMANDU: Police resorted to baton charge on demonstrators at Singha Durbar southern gate as they tried to cross the restricted zone at the main administrative headquarters.

A group of irate engineers had reached there to picket Ministry for Urban Development. Some six protestors sustained injuries in police action. Agitators have condemned the police action in a ‘peaceful demonstration’.

Engineers deployed for the post-earthquake reconstruction have gathered in Kathmandu since more than a week after the government decided to cut their incentives.

Engineer Bidhya Baral demanded the government provide health and accident insurances to engineers deployed in the post-earthquake reconstruction. Agitating engineers have warned a stern action against the government if it fails to roll back the decision to cut incentives.
