36 firms face music during lockdown

KATHMANDU: Various firms, including surgical houses, meat shops, and department stores have faced action for selling daily essentials at an inflated price by taking advantage of the ongoing lockdown.

The Department of Commerce, Supplies, and Consumer Protection took action against these firms for selling daily essentials in an inflated rate.

Some 36 firms, including 2 firms from Banke district have faced action from the Department. The department has collected some Rs 5 million revenue as fine.

According to the Department, Bhat Vegetables and Fruits Supplies has been fined Rs 50,000 for not displaying the price list while Devi Sharma Vegetables and Fruits has been penalized Rs 20,000 for failing to produce purchase bills.

Likewise, various meat shops also faced action of selling meats at a high price. Meat shops, including Muskan Meat Shop, Bhattisputali, Ikalu Meat Shop, New Baneshwor, Shiva Cold Store, and Chapagaun Dobato faced action. The Department has collected Rs 2.00.000 revenue fine each of them.

Likewise, Shrish Supplies, Tripureshwor, Pharmacy at Summit Hospital, International Patho Scientific Traders, Tripureshwor, Deuti Surgical and Scientific House, Tinkune, Kantipur Surgical House, Tripureshwor, Mahalaxmi Ishan Enterprises, Tripureshwor, Kalika Traders, Sukedhara, Pratima Pharmacy, Satdobato, have also been fined Rs 2,00,000 each.

According to the Department, New BK Store, Bhafal, (Rs, 3,00,000), Lumbini International Traders, New Baneshwor, (Rs 50,000), Budha Bazar Pvt. Ltd, Sitapaila (Rs 2,00,000), Daily Grocery, Mahankal (Rs 2,00,000) and Babulal Fruits and Vegetables Shops, Imadol (Rs 50,0000) have been penalized.

All firms have been penalized according to the Consumer Right Act, 2075 Article 16 A.
