Over two dozen houses in Tanahun at risk of landslide



TANAHUN: More than two dozen houses at Byas municipality-1 and 3 of Tanahun district are at risk due to landslides caused by incessant rains on Thursday and Friday.

Lack of drainage at the settlements has added to the loss, according to Deputy Superintendent of Police Lila Raj Lamichhane.

Authorities are collecting the details of the loss incurred by the rainfall, he said.

Mudslides covering around 50 meters area caused by rampant land plotting nearby have put the settlements at risk, said Dhurba Basnet of the municipality-1, whose house is at risk.

Locals have demanded the local government to stop land plotting in the area.

Around one dozen houses in municipality-3 are at risk of being washed away by landslides, according to ward chair Prem Kumar Shrestha.

Efforts were underway to contain landslides, said Pushpa Shrestha, founding chair of Srijana village development institution.
