Biplav outfit’s influential leader Hemanta Oli held

KATHMANDU: Police have arrested Hemanta Prakash Oli, influential leader of Nepal Communist Party led by Netra Bikram Chand alias Biplav. Oli was arrested from Kavre district on Friday night. He is the central command in-charge of he party.

Police had been searching Oli as he was the mastermind behind the explosion at Nakhkhu-based Ncell headquarters, where a man died while two others sustained critical injuries.

Eight cadres including Oli arrested 

A special squad of Nepal Police has arrested eight cadres including Oli. Their ranks and positions in the party are yet to be ascertained. Those arrested include Shankar Adhikari, Bijaya Shrestha, Dharma Rajbahak, Ram Krishna Khatiwada, Lalit Tamang, Sanjeev Karki, Dev Ghimire and Lokendra Khadka, according police.

They were arrested during security check at Khanikhola-7, Milche Danda while they were traveling in a Scorpio jeep, Ba 17 Cha 4893, last night. Police said they will be brought to Metropolitan Crime Division, Tekhu.

Biplav leaders and cadres have gone underground after the government banned the former’s activities.

Police have launched a search and arrest operation following the ban. Earlier, a mobile police team  had exchanged fire with Biplav cadres at Falame Sanghu of Kavre district and arrested two cadres.

A cabinet meeting held on March 12 had decided to ban Biplav-led Nepal Communist Party terming it as a criminal outfit. With the decision the Home Ministry has directed Nepal Police, Armed Police Force and National Investigation Department in all 77 districts to keep close tabs on the activities of the Biplav’s outfit.
