KATHMANDU: Australian Prime Minister Scott Morrison has suggested international students, including Nepalis, to go back to their home countries if they are facing hardship to stay in Australia due to coronavirus outbreak.
Pm Morrison’s statement is likely to affect thousands of Nepali students who are currently in Australia.
Australian media reported that Australian Prime Minister made the statement following a Cabinet meeting held on Friday.
PM Morrison said people staying in Australia under various visa arrangements and are unable to support themselves can go back to their respective countries.
He said that it is high time that Australian government focused on its citizens and residents to ensure that it we can maximize economic supports the government has, the ABC news Australia said.
PM Morrison, however, said that international visitors having critical skills could be the exception adding that doctors or nurses, or people having other critical skills that can really help the government during this crisis can have opportunities in Australia.
He added that the government’s our focus and priority is on supporting Australians and Australian residents with economic supports that are available.
