India fights coronavirus on war footing as it records second death

KATHMANDU: India recorded its second coronavirus disease fatality on Friday as the pandemic continued to spread across the country.

With this fatality, the death toll from COVID-19 has reached two in India while the number of infected with the novel virus climbed to 82. Of them 65 are Indian nationals and 17 are foreigners.

The latest victim was identified as as a 68-year-old woman who is believed to have been infected by the coronavirus after being in close contact with her son, who had traveled to Switzerland and Italy last month.

The two had been hospitalized at Ram Manohar Lohia on March 7.

On Thursday, a 76-year-old man from Kalburgi, Karnataka, was confirmed as the first Covid-19 fatality.
