KATHMANDU: It has been revealed that Naresh Thapa, the younger brother of Home Minister Ram Bahadur Thapa, has surrendered to Dillibazar Prison.
He surrendered before the prison secretly on Monday after High Court Patan remanded him to custody reversing the decision of Kathmandu District Court.
On February 11, a joint bench of Chief Judge Nahakul Subedi and Judge Shreeman Kumar Gautam remanded Naresh in custody for further investigation.
A case had been filed at High Court Patan against Naresh on the charge of extorting businessmen in cahoots with a criminal group.
On September 18, a single bench of Judge Medani Paudel of Kathmandu District Court had released Naresh on Rs 100,000-bail.
Six people including Naresh had been accused of extorting businessmen in cahoots with Samirman Singh Basnet, the murder-accused of Chairman of Federation of Contractors’ Association of Nepal Sharad Kumar Gauchan.
