NCP forms task force to suggest constitution-amendment proposal



KATHMANDU: The ruling Nepal Communist Party (NCP) on Sunday formed a task force to suggest the constitution amendment proposal.

The three-member amendment task force is led by NCP senior leader Madhav Kumar Nepal. Two other members include Subash Chandra Nembang and Khim Lal Devkota.

Party sources said that the pressure to amend the constitution has come from party Vice Chairman Bam Dev Gautam that would pave the way for him to become the Prime Minister.

The NCP is all set to appoint Gautam as a National Assembly (NA) member.

It should be noted that the term of 19 NA members is expiring next week.

While 18 of them will be replaced by the newly-elected members, one member will be appointed by the President in the recommendation of the cabinet.

The NCP has urged the government to nominate Gautam to the NA as the President’s appointee.
