NC leaders strive to end intra-party disputes

KATHMANDU: Senior leaders of the Nepali Congress (NC) party are engaged in a ‘crucial’ meeting at the party President Sher Bahadur Deuba’s residence in Budhanilkantha today.

Party leaders said today’s meeting is ‘crucial’ to narrow down the differences seen within the party that has surfaced in the last two months.

Party President Sher Bahadur Deuba has recently shown ‘flexibility’ to resolve the internal dispute and try to convince the dissatisfied leaders about his previous decisions.

Senior leader Ram Chandra Paudel, who is disenchanted over Deuba’s ‘monopolistic attitude’ in the party’s crucial decisions, including Prakash Man Singh, Krishna Prasad Sitaula, Bimalendra Nidhi, are attending the meeting.

“Today’s meeting is expected to see a positive outcome,” NC vice president Bilamendra Nidhi said.

Poudel and his faction are disgruntled with the Deuba faction after the latter unilaterally decided to extend his term for one year and announced the date for the next general convention of the party.

On December 27 last year, a central committee meeting of the party – boycotted by Poudel and Sitaula – had decided to extend the term of the party president until March 3, 2021. Likewise, the meeting had also decided to hold the party’s general convention from February 19-22, 2021.
