Nepali worker dies in Malaysia

KATHMANDU: A Nepali worker has died in Malaysia after being caught in a meat-mincing machine.

The 47-year-old Nepali citizen was reportedly carrying out maintenance works on the machine when it suddenly got “turned on”.

The deceased was with three other colleagues when the unfortunate accident took place on Monday.

The tragic incident occurred at a meat-processing factory near Masjid Tanah in Malacca state, Malaysian media reports.

Malaysian news website The Star Online cited a local fire department official who said the machine caught the victim around his waist causing severe injuries to his body.

It took authorities nearly 30 minutes to recover the body of the man from the machine.

Over 300,000 migrant workers from Nepal live and work in Malaysia. In 2018 alone, more than 300 Nepalese workers died in Malaysia due to various reasons including self-harm.
