Shekhar Koirala secretariat denies receiving any seven-point proposal from party establishment

KATHMANDU: The secretariat of Nepali Congress leader Shekhar Koirala has clarified that no proposal for consensus has been received from the party establishment faction, dismissing media reports claiming otherwise.

Issuing a press note, the secretariat stated that there is no truth to the widely circulated claim that the establishment side had sent a seven-point proposal for internal party consensus.

The statement described such reports as fabricated, baseless and misleading, and urged party members as well as the general public not to be influenced by such misinformation.

The secretariat further clarified that neither Koirala nor his team has received any official communication regarding such a proposal from any side.

It also noted that since the party’s special general convention, which elected a new working committee, meaningful dialogue between the establishment and the rival faction has been limited.

According to the secretariat, Koirala has held only two formal meetings following the convention—one with leader Pradeep Paudel on April 5, and another with party president Gagan Thapa on May 5, both held at Koirala’s secretariat in Bishalnagar.

“Beyond these meetings, there has been no dialogue or contact with anyone,” the statement added.

At a time when internal realignment efforts are reportedly underway within the Nepali Congress following the special general convention, the clarification from Koirala’s side is being viewed as politically significant.
