KATHMANDU: The National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) has forwarded 20-point recommendations to the government to implement the fundamental rights enshrined in the Constitution.

The recommendations were made to the Office of the Prime Minister and Council of Ministers on the occasion of the 70 years of the adoption of UDHR, said NHRC Spokesperson Bed Prasad Bhattarai.

The acts made on the implementation of the fundamental rights need to be corrected after discussion with concerned stakeholders.

The amendment process needs to be forwarded based on the international human rights instruments.

Similarly formulation of related regulation and directives is equally important to fully implement the laws on fundamental rights.

According to the NHRC, adequate resources should be guaranteed to implement fundamental rights. Plans to implement rights need to be prioritized on strategic and periodic plans.

Along with this, massive public awareness on rights at federal, provincial and local levels is compulsory, the NHRC stressed.

Laws contradicting the Constitution must be annulled and confusion on concurrent laws should be cleared on time.

The government could make both short and long-term plans for the implementation of the recommendations made to Nepal on Universal Periodic Review.

The government must be ready to end impunity in practice.
