KATHMANDU: The Non-Resident Nepalis Association (NRNA) has conducted a survey to construct international-standard public toilets in Kathmandu.

The first phase of the study covered areas such as Balaju, Kalanki, the area in front of the President’s Office, Jayabageshwori Sifal Ground, Koteshwor and Swoyambhu.

The second round of the study will be carried out by identifying the necessity, Kathmandu Metropolitan City (KMC) Urban Planning Commission vice chair Saroj Basnet informed.

Basnet said that the sustainable management aspect has been emphasized on the public toilet construction project.

The NRNA has proposed the construction of a 40-feet-long and 16-feet-wide toilet.

The toilet will have three urinals for males and two receptacles for defecation.

Likewise, four toilets will be constructed for a female with the sanitary pads management facility and one for persons with disabilities.

Similarly, there will also be a space for changing baby diapers and breastfeeding.

The toilets have been designed in such a way that an estimated 100 people can use them per hour.

The KMC has currently 28 public toilets. However, most of them lack facilities such as running water and soap.
