KATHMANDU: A meeting of the Central Working Committee (CWC) of the main opposition Nepali Congress (NC) scheduled for today has been deferred for Friday at 1 pm.

The CWC meeting was postponed after the leaders of the Paudel-led faction did not turn up in the meeting.

A meeting of the Central Working Committee of the main opposition Nepali Congress has been facing impasse due to the disgruntled faction led by senior leader Ram Chandra Paudel.

Leaders of Paudel-led faction have been boycotting the CWC meeting called by the establishment side over the intra-party wrangling for the last few days.

It should be noted that General Secretary Krishna Prasad Sitaula’s efforts to narrow down the differences by ‘convincing’ leaders of both sides on Tuesday could not materialize as the leaders remained rigid in their respective stance.

While the Deuba-led faction has been insisting on postponing the convention to the third week of November next year, the Poudel-faction has been pressurizing the party establishment to hold the convention by mid-February next year.

The two sides have been rigid in their positions on the issue of the party’s general convention, the formation of the Nepal Students’ Union (NSU), and the tenure of Tarun Dal.
