ISLAMABAD: Citing an ‘in absentia’ in the judgement procedure, the Government of Pakistan has finally come to speak on behalf of Musharraf and against the Special Court’s verdict demanding death penalty for Parvez Musharraf, the ex-president of the country.
Questioning the intent of the prosecutor on handling the case against the ailing Ex-Prez undergoing treatment at ICU, Anwar Mansoor, the Attorney General of the country has made his mood to defend the Ex-army chief-turned President .
“I will defend the law in the case but not any individual,” said Mansoor adding, “Musharraf was not given a chance to record his statement in line with Article 342 (of the Constitution), to present his testimony and witnesses and his request to record his statement through video link or before a commission was turned down by the judge.”
In the meantime, Dr Firdous Ashiq Awan, the PM’s aide has criticized the opposition for maligning the army and harming the interest of the state.
Nadeem Afzal, the government’s spokesperson, has asked everybody to maintain patience and ensure that the institutions should not get themselves involved in any controversy.
Political parties of Pakistan appear divided on Musharraf’s case as the one facing his rise seems to be supporting the verdict against him while the other supporting the Ex-Prez.
