NC row: Deuba-faction in a ‘mood to contain’ disgruntled faction

KATHMANDU: The intra-party wrangling within the Nepali Congress (NC) seems to be wedged further as the establishment side, as sources claim, is not in a mood to accede to the disgruntled faction’s voice.

A meeting of the party senior leader Ram Chandra Poudel-led faction is underway at Poudel’s residence at Baniyataar.

The meeting is currently discussing the faction’s move at a time when the party has convened its central working committee (CWC) meeting at the party central office in Sanepa this afternoon.

“We are trying to patch up the differences,” party Vice President Bimalendra Nidhi, who represents the party establishment side, told Khabarhub.

Nidhi hoped that the dissatisfied faction would participate in today’s CWC meeting. He, however, hastened to add that the CWC meeting would go ahead even if the Poudel-faction did not turn up, which means that the Deuba-faction wants to go ahead with the meeting despite Poudel faction’s absence.

It should be noted that General Secretary Krishna Prasad Sitaula’s efforts to narrow down the differences by ‘convincing’ leaders of both sides on Tuesday could not materialize as the leaders remained rigid to their respective stance.

While the Deuba-led faction has been insisting on postponing the convention to the third week of November next year, the Poudel-faction has been pressurizing the party establishment to hold the convention by mid-February next year.

“We are close to consensus on the issue of holding the convention,” Nidhi said.

The two sides have been rigid to their positions on the issue of the party’s general convention, the formation of the Nepal Students’ Union (NSU), and the tenure of Tarun Dal.
