14 die in Sindhupalchok bus accident

SINDHUPALCHOK: At least 14 pilgrims were killed on the spot and 18 injured when a bus skidded off the road and fell some 500 meters down at Sunkoshi-7, Swara of the district on early Sunday morning.

According to police, the bus, Ba 4 Kha 4468, was heading to Bhaktapur from Kalinchowk of Dolakha district when it met with the fatal accident.

Among the 14 killed on the spot are eight men, three women, a boy and a girl, police said.

The identification of the deceased is yet to be ascertained.

Sindhupalchok Acting District Officer Bhimkanta Sharma confirmed the fatalities, adding the death toll could rise further.

The injured are being rushed to hospitals, he said.

Some 40 pilgrims returning after visiting Kalinchowk Bhagwati Temple were on board the ill-fated bus.

Security personnel backed by the locals are carrying out the rescue operations.
