BANKE: Police have arrested two individuals in possession of illegal Indian currency worth around Rs 600,000 in Banke District.
According to the District Police Office Banke, the arrested have been identified as 29-year-old Birbal Kumar of Narainapur Rural Municipality-5 and 38-year-old Muniv Khan of the same locality.
Police said they were travelling on an auto-rickshaw towards Narainapur when they were intercepted based on special intelligence. A search revealed illegal Indian currency notes of ₹500 and ₹1,000 denominations.
The seized amount has been handed over to the Inland Revenue Office Kohalpur, and the arrested individuals are under investigation, police said.
In a separate operation, police also confiscated smuggled goods worth around Rs 346,000 from different locations in Nepalgunj, including wards 3, 10, and 17.
Items such as cigarettes, pan masala, beverages, and broiler chickens were seized along with motorcycles used for transportation. All seized goods have been handed over to the Customs Office Nepalgunj, police added.
