Rohingyas in Kavre asked to leave within 7 days

KAVRE: Rohingyas, who had arrived in Nepal from Myanmar following a military crackdown, have been asked to leave their sheds in Panauti of the district.

A landlord has directed them to leave their makeshift tents within seven days. One Satyaram Thapa had allowed 23 Rohingyas to rent his land. Thapa directed them to leave after knowing that they are illegal immigrants.

Rohingya leader Muhammad Yusuf said they have already spent Rs 600,000 for construction of sheds, adding that they have nowhere to go.

Yusuf said they have not got jobs as Nepal is yet to recognize them as refugees. The Rohingyas had reached Kushadevi from Kapan in Kathmandu.

According to the Ministry of Home Affairs (MoHA), around 650 Rohingyas are spread out over Nepal though the exact numbers are yet to come.
