13th SAG: Nepal bags 15 gold medals



KATHMANDU: Nepal on Monday won 15 gold medals in the ongoing 13th South Asian Games in Kathmandu. Nepal pocketed seven gold medals in karate only.

Likewise, Nepal won seven gold medals in taekwondo and one in triathlon.

Nepal’s Nita Gurung, Prashamsa Chhetri and Sushila Rai pocketed a gold medal for Nepal in women’s team poomsae in taekwondo to take the tally to 15 gold medals. They defeated the team of Sri Lankan players scoring 7.920 against the score of 7.810.

Earlier, Nisha Darnal, Swatima Tamang and Sanjila Timilsina won a gold medal for Nepal in poomsae 17-23 years age category of taekwondo .

Anu Adhikari won the 13th gold medal for Nepal in karate. Kusum Khadka won another gold medal for Nepal.

Likewise, Biplavlal Shrestha won a gold medal for Nepal under the 85 kg kumute category. He defeated Pakistani player 6-5. Nepal also won gold medals in karate (team kata, women and men categories).

Nepal’s Laxman Tamang earned a gold medal for Nepal in karate under 55 kg weight category.

Kamal Shrestha and Parbati Gurung won gold medals for Nepal in men’s poomsae 23-29 years and women’s poomsae 23-29 years categories.

Similarly, Ayesha Shakya earned a gold medal for Nepal in over 29 years category in taekwondo. She has already grabbed two gold medals for Nepal in this edition of the regional tournament.

Sony Gurung won a gold medal in the Triathlon tournament held at Lakeside in Pokhara.
