KATHMANDU: The Business Advisory Committee of the House of Representatives is meeting today to discuss the formation of a parliamentary special committee on the Rasuwa-Bhotekoshi-Trishuli disaster and climate change.
According to the House of Representatives Secretariat, the meeting is scheduled for 12:15 pm at the Business Hall adjacent to the House of Representatives chamber in Singha Durbar.
The meeting will discuss a proposal to form a parliamentary special committee to monitor search, rescue, relief, rehabilitation and reconstruction efforts following the Bhotekoshi disaster. The committee is also expected to provide policy recommendations to the government to minimize loss of life and property in similar disasters in the future.
The proposed committee would also focus on disaster preparedness, early warning systems, sustainable infrastructure reconstruction, and the review and strengthening of disaster management laws.
Although political parties have been holding discussions on the formation of the special committee, the process has been delayed due to a lack of agreement on its membership, scope of work, tenure and coordinator.
The Business Advisory Committee is expected to discuss these issues at today’s meeting and explore ways to move the formation process forward. Various other parliamentary matters are also scheduled to be discussed.
Members of the committee have been requested to attend the meeting.
