KATHMANDU: Users of Hamro Patro have collectively contributed Rs 12.5 million to the Prime Minister’s Disaster Relief Fund to support relief, recovery and reconstruction efforts for families and communities affected by the recent devastating disaster in Nepal.
The contribution was formally handed over to Finance Minister Dr. Swarnim Wagle on behalf of the Hamro Patro community.
Along with the donation, the names of all contributors were submitted to the government to ensure that their individual contributions are formally recorded and recognised as part of the collective effort by the Hamro Patro community.
Hamro Patro facilitated the campaign to enable Nepalis living abroad to contribute to the national relief effort more easily. No service fees were charged for the transfers, allowing the full amount donated by users to reach the relief fund.
“This Rs 12.5 million represents the collective contribution of our users. Hamro Patro’s role was simply to help bring their support home,” said Shankar Uprety, founder and chief executive officer of Hamro Patro.
“We are deeply grateful for the willingness to help, unity and generosity shown by Nepalis around the world when Nepal needed support. We sincerely thank everyone who contributed, regardless of the amount,” he added.
Since its establishment, Hamro Patro has sought to connect Nepali communities through information and digital services while also facilitating collective support during times of need. The Hamro Patro app has been downloaded more than 20 million times worldwide.
Hamro Patro expressed gratitude to all users who contributed to the campaign and solidarity with families and communities affected by the disaster.
