JANAKPURDHAM: The Madhesh Province government constructed and upgraded 591.18 km of roads across all eight districts of the province during the last fiscal year, 2082/83.
The provincial government has prioritized road infrastructure development to improve connectivity between rural settlements, market centers and major road networks across the province.
Rohit Joshi, information officer at the Ministry of Physical Infrastructure Development, said the Infrastructure Development Office constructed and upgraded a total of 591.18 km of roads during the fiscal year. The roads include RCC-paved, gravelled and blacktopped sections.
According to Joshi, 227.06 km of RCC-paved roads were constructed in various districts during the period. Similarly, 336.68 km of roads were gravelled and 27.44 km were constructed as earthen roads.
Along with road construction, the provincial government also focused on developing supporting infrastructure along the roads. Joshi said 61.10 km of concrete drainage systems were constructed during the fiscal year.
The provincial government also accelerated the construction of small and medium-sized bridges and other structures alongside road development. According to the ministry, 138 culverts, 184 Hume pipes and three bridges were constructed and brought into operation in various districts during the last fiscal year.
