KATHMANDU: Prime Minister Balen Shah’s scheduled address to the nation had yet to begin as of Thursday evening, despite an earlier announcement that it would be delivered at 6:30 pm.
By around 7:15 pm, there was still no indication that the Prime Minister’s televised address was about to commence.
Shah had decided to address the nation five days after tensions first erupted between two communities in Kaptanganj of Dewanganj Rural Municipality, Sunsari.
The Prime Minister is expected to deliver the address after dispatching Home Minister Sudan Gurung to the affected district earlier on Thursday.
On Wednesday, Shah issued a statement on social media, expressing grief over the incident and pledging legal action against those responsible. He also committed to ensuring justice for the families of those killed and providing compensation to the victims.
However, the government has yet to formally announce a compensation package.
In his social media statement, Shah said the government understands the suffering of the affected families and remains committed to delivering justice and compensation. The anticipated televised address is expected to outline the government’s position on the ongoing unrest.
