KATHMANDU: The Rastriya Prajatantra Party (RPP) has decided to hold its central general convention in Kathmandu from December 12 to 14.
The decision was taken during the party’s Central Working Committee meeting held in Kathmandu on Friday and Saturday under the chairmanship of party chief Rajendra Lingden.
The meeting reviewed the government’s initial performance and stated that expected improvements had not been seen in governance, transparency, and accountability.
RPP also expressed concern over what it described as the lack of a clear foreign policy direction, warning that it could lead to an atmosphere of distrust with neighboring countries.
The party called on the government to withdraw taxes imposed in the fiscal year 2083/84 budget on basic sectors such as education, health, and electricity. It also urged stronger market monitoring and measures to control rising prices of daily essentials and construction materials.
Commenting on the removal of settlements along riverbanks in Kathmandu, the party said relocation efforts had proceeded without adequate alternative housing arrangements and demanded immediate rehabilitation for genuine landless residents.
RPP further argued that actions targeting the private sector could weaken the investment environment and stressed the need to strengthen the rule of law and institutional regulation.
The meeting also formed the central general convention main organizing committee under the coordination of Chairperson Lingden.
According to the approved schedule, district-level conventions will be completed by the mid-September, provincial conventions will be held between October 1 and 10, and selection of convention representatives will take place from October 27 to November 16.
The party stated that the outcome of a single election would not determine its future and called on its leaders, cadres, and supporters in Nepal and abroad to remain active with high morale.
