Nepal, China discuss strengthening cooperation in health and food safety sector

KATHMANDU: Health and Food Safety Minister Nisha Mehta held a courtesy meeting with the Chinese Ambassador to Nepal, Zhang Maoming, on Monday, where the two sides discussed strengthening bilateral cooperation in the health sector.

According to the Ministry, the meeting held at the ministry focused on the long-standing friendly relations between Nepal and China and ways to further enhance collaboration in public health and related areas.

During the meeting, Minister Mehta expressed gratitude to the Chinese government for its continued support in Nepal’s health sector projects and during difficult times. She also extended best wishes to the newly appointed ambassador for a successful tenure.

Mehta said Nepal should learn from China’s development experience and apply relevant practices to strengthen its own health system.

On the occasion, Ambassador Maoming congratulated the Government of Nepal and expressed hope that it would achieve notable progress in its economic and social development priorities.

He reiterated China’s readiness to support Nepal in priority areas, including traditional medicine, public health, health infrastructure and food safety. He also proposed expanding technical assistance and capacity-building programs in these sectors.

The two sides also exchanged views on making Nepal–China cooperation in health and public health more effective and result-oriented, according to the ministry.
