Supreme Court orders CIB to produce Shekhar Golchha within 24 hours

KATHMANDU: The Supreme Court has ordered authorities to produce former president of the Federation of Nepalese Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FNCCI) Shekhar Golchha within 24 hours.

The order was issued on Tuesday in response to a habeas corpus petition filed after Golchha was taken into custody by the Central Investigation Bureau (CIB) of Nepal Police.

A single bench of Justice Nripadhwaj Niraula issued the order directing the concerned authorities to submit Golchha along with a written response within 24 hours.

The petition was filed by Golchha’s wife, Seema Golchha, challenging his detention.

Earlier, the Kathmandu District Court had granted permission on Monday to extend Golchha’s custody for an additional three days for investigation. The order was issued by a bench of Judge Dandapani Lamsal.

Golchha was taken into custody by a CIB team on April 22 and has since been under investigation.

In a statement, the CIB said Golchha was arrested in connection with a securities-related offence. The investigation was launched based on a preliminary report from the Securities Board of Nepal.

The probe has been initiated under multiple sections of the Securities Act, including allegations under sections 94, 95, 96(1), and 98. The CIB said further investigation is being carried out under section 103(3) of the same Act.
