KATHMANDU: The government led by Balendra Shah has unveiled a plan to deliver key public services directly to citizens’ homes.
According to the governance reform agenda made public on Saturday evening, essential services such as passports, citizenship certificates, and driving licenses will be delivered at home. The plan, approved by the first Cabinet meeting, is targeted for implementation within the next 100 days.
The government also aims to modernize the postal system and develop it into a “government courier service,” allowing citizens to receive official documents without having to visit government offices.
Under the proposal, service delivery will be streamlined to make it faster, simpler, and free from middlemen. A “predictable time” mechanism will also be introduced to ensure services are delivered within a fixed timeframe, with the goal of improving public trust.
Additionally, the agenda envisions transforming the entire service delivery process into a digital, time-bound, and “faceless” system, which is expected to enhance transparency and efficiency.
