KATHMANDU: Prime Minister Sushila Karki said she is leaving office with “some satisfaction and much hope” as she prepares to hand over power to a newly elected government.
Addressing the nation from Baluwatar on Thursday evening, the prime minister said she was pleased to transfer authority to a government formed through public mandate.
Karki stated that the main objective of her tenure, holding elections within six months and handing over responsibility to an elected government, had been fulfilled.
“I am leaving today with some satisfaction and many hopes,” she said.
During her address, Karki recalled taking office amid fear and uncertainty following the Gen-Z movement that took place on September 8 and 9.
Paying tribute to those who lost their lives and those injured during the protests, she expressed condolences to the bereaved families and wished for the recovery of the injured.
Karki also expressed sorrow over the damage caused to historical heritage sites, businesses and private property due to vandalism and arson during the protests. She called on all citizens to move forward together in unity.
Referring to the recently concluded election, Karki said the public had delivered a clear mandate in favor of change. She expressed confidence that the incoming government would focus on strengthening good governance, creating employment opportunities, controlling corruption, promoting economic development and ensuring social justice.
