Oli accuses RSP of attempting to disrupt election after ‘concluding it will lose’

JHAPA: Chair of the CPN-UML, KP Sharma Oli, has accused the Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP) of engaging in unruly activities after allegedly concluding that it would not win the election.

Speaking to journalists at Bhadrapur Airport in Jhapa on Saturday, Oli said recent actions of the RSP appeared indecent, inappropriate, and aimed at escalating tensions.

“I feel that the RSP may have concluded that it will not win the election. That is why incidents such as burning flags and displaying extremely indecent and inappropriate behavior, as well as attempts to create tension, have started to surface,” Oli said.

He claimed it could be inferred that the RSP had reached a stage of trying to disrupt the election process.

“It appears that they are willing to contest the election only if the results are in their favor, and if not, they are inclined to prevent the election from taking place. From the recent developments, it seems that the RSP is trying to derail the election,” he added.

Oli also stressed that elections should not be conducted through force. He said there must be a fair, peaceful, and impartial environment within the framework of the law.

“An election is not something to be carried out by force. There should be clean competition, a peaceful atmosphere, and free and fair polls without rigging,” he said. “Voters must be able to cast their votes freely and without any disturbance. Only then can it be called an election.”

He further stated that the entire process, from pre-election activities to vote counting and the announcement of results, must be transparent, adding that his party has consistently raised this issue.
