Non-communicable disease screening intensified in Baitadi

BAITADI: Health authorities in Baitadi have intensified screening for non-communicable diseases (NCDs) amid rising health risks in the district.

Local governments have deployed health workers to villages as part of a month-long campaign aimed at identifying cases of chronic illnesses. Ram Singh Mahara, Chief of the Health Branch of Surnaya Rural Municipality, said health workers have been mobilized in all 66 villages across the municipality’s eight wards.

“We are deploying health workers in every village to conduct tests for non-communicable diseases,” Mahara said. “The campaign covers all 66 villages, and necessary medicines are being distributed during the health check-ups.”

Under the initiative, free health screenings are being provided to residents aged 30 and above at local health institutions. The tests include blood pressure, blood sugar (diabetes), and body mass index (BMI) assessments. Patients diagnosed with non-communicable diseases are being referred to hospitals and health centers for further treatment if needed.

Mahara noted that around 50 percent of those tested so far have shown some form of health problem. “Early detection helps in minimizing complications, which is why we are conducting screenings for everyone above 30 years of age,” he said.

Similarly, Ghanshyam Bohara, head of the health branch of Sigas Rural Municipality, said the campaign aims to raise awareness about the risks of non-communicable diseases and bring affected individuals into the treatment system. He added that health workers have been mobilized with the necessary medical supplies to identify patients at the community level.
