Kuwait man in trouble for ‘best legs’ competition

KUWAIT CITY: A Kuwaiti man, who announced a competition for women’s legs, had been questioned for “violating the country’s traditions and morals”, Kuwaiti newspaper Al-Rai newspaper reported on Monday.

The man, believed to be in his thirties, had promised in an online video offering a 250-dinar gold bracelet for the woman with the most beautiful legs, according to the paper. He claimed in the video to have received 1,500 photos of potential contestants.

The Interior Ministry said that police identified the man and summoned him for questioning over the footage.

He said it was for amusement only and that he later deleted the video from his social media accounts, the ministry’s relations and the security media department said in a statement.

“He was referred to agencies concerned to take the necessary legal procedures against him,” the department said without further details.

The incident is the latest to trigger a stir in the conservative country.

Last month, footage showing fans dancing at a hotel concert in Kuwait sparked conservatives’ outrage and drew condemnation from some lawmakers.

In reaction, Minister of Information Mohammad Al Jabri vowed an inquiry into the incident.
