KATHMANDU: A total of 49 candidates have withdrawn their nominations for the House of Representatives (HoR) elections scheduled for March 5, the Election Commission (EC) has said.
At a press conference held in Kathmandu on Friday, the Commission confirmed that former Prime Minister Dr. Baburam Bhattarai is among those who withdrew their candidatures.
Election Commission spokesperson Narayan Prasad Bhattarai said the nomination of one candidate was rejected after objections were raised against five candidates.
He added that the election process is progressing peacefully across the country. According to him, around 1.5 million ballot papers for the proportional representation system have already been printed. The design and printing of ballot papers for the first-past-the-post system will begin after election symbols are allotted to candidates.
The Commission said that required manpower and election materials have been dispatched to election offices in all seven provinces for the National Assembly elections.
